If you are planning to build a one-off instrument you might consider bending the sides with a traditional bending iron. However, I would recommend that even if you are going to build only one instrument, and definitely if you are going to build more than one guitar, it is worth spending the time to make this bending jig.
This jig makes the job of bending the sides extremely easy and guarantees that you will have very well-formed curves on the sides which are not as easy to make when you do this job with a bending iron.
Of course, you can purchase this type of bending jig from different luthier suppliers, but you will still have to make adjustments to fit the plantilla of your guitar. I believe building your own jig from scratch would be the better option.
